Cultural Competencies:

Module 1: Reflect & Summarize: Your ASL History Connections to ASL History

Instructions in ASL:
Instructions:
  1. Are there any connections between the ASL historical events and you/your parents/your friends' signing styles? For example, if your parent attended school between 1950 - 1965, is there evidence of SEE signing? If so, what are those examples? Have they changed the way they sign over the years?
  2. Name some famous Deaf people or Codas who you've met during your lifetime that have impacted you personally and share in what ways. If you don't have any, discuss how some of the "notable" individuals we learned about have had a lasting impact in the Deaf community and what we might learn from them in terms of advocating.
  3. Personal/Family history: What are some unique stories or connections that you/your family share to Deaf or American History?
