Phase 3: The Beacon
This phase further builds on the concepts learned in Phase 2. It includes group skill development opportunities, observation of interpreted work, and direct individualized mentoring with a team of trained mentors. Mentoring occurs at a distance using video technology. The professional development activities will be based on individual needs and goals. The mentoring path will vary based on the goals and needs determined during mentoring. This is a hybrid course, with an online component and face-to-face meetings conducted through video conferencing technology.

Content
Components
Group MentoringMeet biweekly as a group with a mentor using Zoom. A video will be posted on Facebook biweekly, ASL features and the interpreting process will be discussed using the video.

Mentoring with a Coda MentorInterpret stimulus videos using GoReact, complete a self analysis of each interpreting video. Meet with Coda mentor biweekly to review goals, discuss self-analysis and feedback.

Participants in the Mentoring course should plan to commit approximately 3 hours per week during the course, in addition to responding in a timely fashion to email correspondence.
Requirements to participate
Participants in Phase 3 will need reliable internet access, access to a computer with a webcam, and video camera (phone, tablet, computer, etc.) and 3 hours per week in time commitment to the course.

What's next?
Upon successful completion of the Mentoring phase of Compass, participants are supported by the Compass team in their transition to interpreting opportunities in their local communities. Phase 4, also known as Bridge, will include mentoring, internships, and supported transition to interpreting opportunities in your local communities.
