Viewing Time: 11 minutes
Activity for class meeting
Video Analysis

Find an example of each of the Visual Vernacular techniques in the Triathlon video. Note down time marker & brief description (ie: at 2:57 role shift: man with stopwatch & the swimmers) bring your list to our class meeting.

Creating ASL story
Assignment #1

Video yourself and upload to GoReact. Then mark and label where you used each of the 5 Visual Vernacular techniques.

Video Development: Think about a sport or physical activity you've done in the past that required you to learn and prepare before actually doing it (can be anything from skiing to improv comedy to backpacking or yoga).

Using the format of the Triathlon story:
  • Explain the structure of that sport/physical activity
  • Why you decided to do it
  • Planning/learning/training you did
  • What happened - result - bring us to the competition/target activity
  • Utilize Visual Vernacular techniques throughout!
  • Plan out your video and practice

Conceptual Accuracy
Assignment #2

Each week you will have a GoReact assignment with a list of sentences to be completed in ASL. Each week will spotlight a featured concept/word and your goal will be to sign that concept/word differently in each sentence according to the sentence's meaning

ASL News Story
Assignment #3
Complete your second draft of your ASL News Story

Remember to review your feedback for your ASL news story and consider how to refine your story. Your second draft should incorporate revisions according to the feedback you received on your first draft.
