English Skills

Instruction: 
  • This is a self-study assignment, there are no uploads or posts required. Completion is strongly suggested prior to arriving onsite, so you are ready for the week's activities. 
  • First, consider the following topics:
    • Volunteering
    • Booking travel,
    • Bullying,
    • Holiday planning,
    • Big cats/wild cats. 
  • Second, consider all possible speaker/audience register scenarios: 
    • ​​What words, phrases concepts mighty hear or see in a presentation or conversation about these topics (both in ASL & English). 
    • What do you already know about these topics? 
    • Do you need to research any topics? 
    • Review 7 prediction strategies to help inspire ideas. 
    • What images come to mind when you think about these topics? 
  • Third, brainstorm in your notebook - choose 4 words you thought of from each topic and practice lexical substitution for each word (24 words in total). 
  • ​Lastly, draw in your notebook. If specific images or visual ideas come to mind for each topic, jot them down in your notebook.
